Engaging in Part-time Work in Japan
International students can apply for a permission to engage in part-time work in Japan. Student must follow the steps below to obtain permission from the immigration office. After your application is approved, you are allowed to engage in part-time work up to 28 hours a week while your priority still remains as study and research activities. Without this permission, it is illegal for international students to engage any kind of part-time activities outside of university.
- Contact the educational affairs section and receive forms to fill in.
- Receive your supervising professor’s approval on form and submit all the required documents to educational affairs section for check.
- Once the university approves your application, student will be notified. After that student will visit the immigration office with passport, student ID and residence card. You might ask your tutor to assist you when you visit the local immigration office.
- Once your permission is approved by the immigration office, student must bring the stamped residence card to the educational affair section. The office will take a copy for reference.
- Alternatively, you may apply for this permission at the airport when you enter Japan.
