The creation of materials has always had a changing impact within society. The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, the world's largest suspension bridge is a prime example of the importance of material creations, possessing super-strong wires. The development of semiconductor materials gave birth to transistors and computer semi-conductor lasers, which are indispensable tools found within society. The development of plastics for optical lenses induced today's explosive prevalence of CD players. Furthermore, the creation of super-conductive materials, memory metals, optical fibers as well as discovery of fullerene carbon nanotubes have contributed to the progress of nanotechnology and the development of biomaterials.

In our department, we study materials, which have been explored in fields of mechanics, metals, electronics, chemistry, physics, environments and medicines.
